1. Who we are
The 1840s General Store & Bakery ("we", "us", "our") is a general store and bakery at 2524 County Road 29, Pakenham, Ontario K0A 2X0. This policy explains what personal information we collect through this website, our forms, our online store and our newsletter, the Shopkeeper's Bulletin; how we use it; and the choices you have. We follow Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL).
2. What we collect
What you give us. When you fill in a form on this website, sign up for the Bulletin, call us, or place an order, we may collect your name, email address, phone number, mailing address, and what you write to us.
What is collected automatically. Like most websites, this site may record your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you visit and the site that referred you, using cookies and similar technologies. We use this to keep the site working and to understand, in general terms, how it is used.
Orders. Purchases in our online store are processed through Shopify's checkout. Payment card details are entered directly with the payment processor; we do not see or store your full card number.
3. How we use it
- to answer your questions and handle special orders;
- to fill, ship and follow up on orders from our online store;
- to send you the Shopkeeper's Bulletin, if you asked for it;
- to keep a record of our conversations with you;
- to run, secure and improve this website; and
- to meet our legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information.
4. The Shopkeeper's Bulletin and other emails
We send the Bulletin, our monthly newsletter, only to people who have asked for it, by ticking the Bulletin box on our form or by asking us in the store. Every email includes a way to unsubscribe, and you can also ask us at the counter or by phone. We will stop sending it within ten business days.
5. Text messages
If our form offers text messages and you choose to receive them, we will text you only about what you agreed to. Message frequency may vary. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to stop, or HELP for help. Agreeing to texts is never a condition of a purchase.
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. All the above categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.
6. Who we share it with
We share personal information only with the service providers who help us run the store and this website, such as our website and customer-relationship platform, our email service, Shopify for online orders, payment processors and shipping carriers, and only so they can do that work for us. We may also disclose information if the law requires it. Some of these providers store information outside Canada, where it may be subject to the laws of that country.
7. How long we keep it, and how we protect it
We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes above, or as long as the law requires, and then delete it. We use reasonable physical, administrative and technical safeguards to protect it.
8. Your choices
You may ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or withdraw your consent to our using it, for example by unsubscribing from the Bulletin. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; parts of the site may not work as well without them.
9. Children
This website is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
